What is Content Batching?

Content batching is a time management technique that involves setting aside dedicated blocks of time to focus on creating multiple pieces of content in one sitting.

Instead of writing blog posts sporadically throughout the week, you allocate specific days or hours to write multiple posts at once. This approach allows you to harness your creativity and maximize your efficiency.

How I batched my blog content.

For me, this really helps me to concentrate on just writing blogs, one after the next without changing tasks and jumping around from one thing to the next. In December of 2023, I sat down over a long 3-day weekend and batched 12 monthly ‘business focused’ blogs for this site! That amounted to me writing and creating images for 4 blogs a day.

Here’s how I did it:

  • I decided on the topics I wanted to write about.
  • I dumped all the topics into my Operation Airtbale Base under the Sharee Collier Blogs Tab.
  • I wrote an outline for each blog centered around the chosen topic or keyword
  • I filled in the blog content based don’t he outline.
  • I create a simple blog graphic for each one
  • I scheduled each post, one per month, through the end of the year.

It was so cool to see all that content have the ‘scheduled’ tag and know, that I had at least one piece of informative content being published each month for the following year. From there, I worked on setting up additional content for travel and lifestyle topics but took a more leisurely approach that didn’t rely on me having a year’s worth scheduled in just 3 days.

Why Content Batching Works for Blog Posts:

  1. Increased Focus and Flow: When you batch your blog content, you’re able to immerse yourself fully in the writing process. By eliminating distractions and focusing solely on writing, you can tap into a state of flow. This heightened concentration leads to higher quality content and a reduction in writer’s block.
  2. Time and Energy Savings: Imagine the time wasted each day trying to switch gears between tasks. Content batching eliminates this inefficiency by enabling you to stay in the writing zone for an extended period. With your ideas flowing, you’ll be amazed at how much content you can produce in a shorter amount of time. Plus, the mental energy saved from not constantly switching tasks can be redirected towards other aspects of your business or family.
  3. Improved Consistency: Consistency is key in the blogging world. When you batch your content, you can plan and schedule your posts in advance. This ensures a steady stream of fresh content for your readers, even during busy weeks when you may not have time to write. By consistently delivering valuable content, you build trust and loyalty with your audience.

Tips for Batching Your Blog Content:

  1. Plan Ahead: Before your batching session, take the time to plan the topics, outlines, and key points for each blog post. This will help you stay focused and organized during your writing marathon. I tend to batch by the topic pillar. So I do a business batch, life batch, and a travel batch.
  2. Create a Distraction-Free Environment: Find a quiet space where you can fully concentrate on your writing. Turn off notifications on your phone, close unnecessary tabs on your computer, and let your family know that you need uninterrupted time. A cup of your favorite beverage can also help set the mood! I close the door to my office while I’m batching so make sure the kids don’t burst in with with a funny story or asking for help with something that can ultimately wait until I’m finished.
  3. Set Realistic Goals: Batching content doesn’t mean you have to write an entire year’s or even a month’s worth of blog posts in one sitting. Start with a manageable number, such as three or four posts, and gradually increase as you become more comfortable with the process. Remember, quality is more important than quantity.
  4. Take Breaks: While it’s important to stay focused, don’t forget to take short breaks to rest your mind and stretch your body. Stepping away for a few minutes can actually boost your creativity and productivity when you return to writing. I” usually take a break to hop on the treadmill and stretch my legs, make some coffee or lunch, grab some extra water and of course check in on what everyone else is doing to make sure the next stage of my batching is even appropriate to continue with!
